The second concert in our Festival Musicae Sacrae will be filled with music by Antonio Vivaldi, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn and Franz Schubert.
Our soloist Iga Kowalczyk will join the Orchestra Filarmonica del Mediterraneo in concert!
Iga Kowalczyk, soprano, was born in Gdynia, Poland. She studied singing first in her hometown, then in Lyon, France, to finally complete a Master’s degree at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Genève, Switzerland, in Heidi Brunner’s class in 2023. During her studies, she participated in master classes with i. a. Soile Isokoski, Roger Vignoles, Nikolay Borchev, Jasmin Solfaghari, Nicolas Chesneau, Giuseppe Ravì, Susanne Schimmack and Abigail Richards. In 2019, she was part of the production of Einstein on the Beach by Ph. Glass at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, the Swiss premiere of the opera conducted by Titus Engels. In 2020, she performed the role of 1ère Commère in Angélique by J. Ibert. She came back to the Grand Théâtre de Genève the same year with a song program during the Antigel Festival.
She performed as a soloist in many different programs and concerts in France, Switzerland, USA and Germany, promoting Polish music abroad. Her artistic interests and a special love for romantic and post romantic repertoire guided her to Germany, where in 2022 she joined Hermine May’s singing class at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock, thanks to the Erasmus+ scholarship. In June 2023, Iga has graduated from the HEM de Genève performing A. Schönberg’s Erwartung op. 17 with chamber orchestra under the baton of Judith Baubérot. In February 2024, Iga has performed at the finale of Richard-Wagner Wettbewerb in Leipzig, Germany. In October 2024, she will create the role of Die Weiβe Knochenfrau in Die Reise nach Westen by Y. Chen in Rostock. Currently Iga is completing a Master Bühnengesang degree at the HMT Rostock in Hermine May’s class. In addition to her musical interests, she pursues her linguistic talents, speaking currently 7 foreign languages and learning always more.
The orchestra, previously named Hermes Concentus Musicus, founded in 2004, is comprised of the best Apulian and international musicians, and was recently renamed to Orchestra Filarmonica del Mediterraneo.
The orchestra had many a tournèe with operatic and symphonic productions and have been received with great acclaim, to name a few: Olympic Games in 2004, “Serva Padrona” by Pergolesi at the Dora Stratou Theater in Athens; the Welcoming Concert for the Princes of the House of Savoia in 2005 and invited to perform for the Italian Consulate in Turkey.
The conductor of the orchestra is Maestro Giuseppe Monopoli.
